The Sunnyside is a hilly and residential neighborhood that arose in the 1930-1960s after it was part of Mr. Joost’s large land holding here. Previously overlooked, it has gained in value and prominence in the past few decades. Among many reasons, chief reasons why many live here: easy access to BART, 101/280. The Sunnyside Playground is just a block away. The neighborhood is known for community pride and charm. Residents gathered millions of dollars over years to fund the restoration of the 1902-built Sunnyside Conservatory. Like many west-of-Twin Peaks districts— it can be windy, foggy, and damp at times. But when it’s sunny, it lives up to the name as being very sunny indeed.
