Lake Street, also known as the Lake District, is one of those neighborhoods where people move in and never want to leave. It’s further from the city’s core, but it has a strong community feel, tree-lined streets, and a mix of 2-unit buildings, condos, and income properties. Lake Street itself become a Slow Street during the Pandemic and, after the Pandemic was over and a protracted neighborhood debate, kept that Slow Street status, making it more prime real estate in some cases.
As you get closer to the Presidio and Land’s End, especially north of California Street, you’ll find some truly impressive homes—many of them older stucco structures, with the occasional TIC unit mixed in.
But living here comes with a trade-off: traffic. Park Presidio is the main route to Marin County, and by 3:00 p.m. on a weekday, it’s already jam-packed. Weekends can be busy too as people shuttle between the City and areas north.
Who lives here? A mix of younger to mid-level professionals, retirees, and long-time residents who have traveled the world and come back home to Lake Street.
